about

I wrote this song in 2018 after reading Christine Blasey Ford's testimony during the Brett Kavanaugh trial. I was deeply moved, upset, outraged, and sad. I felt frustrated and helpless. I have never written anything intentionally "political" in my life. But I felt compelled to do something. But what? What could I do? What did I know? Well, I know what it is like to be a woman. I am a woman. And I am a mother. And I want my child to grow up in a world where people believe women. So, I sat down at my piano and wrote and recorded a live version of "judgment day" and immediately put it out on YouTube and Facebook while we all waited for the verdict. It was such an emotional experience. I was shaking when I pressed the publish button on Facebook and YouTube. I was scared. I am glad I did. I am glad I took the chance because it seemed to resonate with people. With women. A short time after posting the song, I got asked to play "Art as Activism" (a fundraiser in my hometown of Wimberley, Texas) where I performed the song live for the first time. I recently recorded a studio version and it will appear as a track on my forthcoming album. I don't want to wait for the album to share the final version of this song so I am releasing it now as a single. Believe Women.

lyrics

judgment day

it's all the same
all the same
all the same
it's just nothing

who's to blame?
who's to blame?
who's to blame?
it's just nothing

but at 1:30 in the afternoon on Friday
what's it gonna be boys?

it's just a drink
just a drink
just a drink
it's just nothing

it's just a word
just a word
just her word
it's just nothing

but at 1:30 in the afternoon on Friday
what's it gonna be boys?

her heart stuck out like a sore thumb
carve it out, serve it up
roasted pigeon
chew it up, spit it out
leave you the crumbs
hit and run
hit and run
hit and run
hit and run

it's all the same
all the same
all the same
it's just nothing

who's to blame?
who's to blame?
who's to blame?
it's just nothing

judgment day
judgment day
judgment day was just nothing

but at 1:30 in the afternoon on Friday
what's it gonna be boys?
what's it gonna be boys?
what's it gonna be boys?
is it always gonna be boys?
