It’s been a year I woke up in someone else's life My clothes don’t fit My skin’s a vise It’s been a year in measured time Oh but I don’t remember living it I try to pretend I am me I look up through filtered light Through bitterness Where’s my confidence? I try and cross this new divide Oh but I don’t think I can make it And I try and pretend I am me And there’s nowhere you can get to any faster When the road is lined with cars And there’s nothing you can say any louder Everybody’s screaming anyhow And I try and pretend I am me What the fuck are we doing here? It’s been a year Oh, it’s been a year And how can I measure time When it’s cracked? And I don’t remember breaking it And I try and forget I am me Oh I try and forget I am me And the sticks look like bones And the bones look like rocks And the rocks look like hearts And the hearts are made of stone Words and Music by Larissa Rook, Copyright 2022

Crocus and the Daisies A bell rings in the station No one picks up the phone Windows rolled down As I drive down the road A heavy scent of cedar Lingers in the air And I wonder where the year has gone How did I get here? What a strange surprise Being out in the cold I never felt so alive And I never felt so old Well the air is much warmer The flowers in bloom The crocus, the daisies, Forsythia too Coffee is bitter Blankets are rough Funny how I’ve grown to hate The things I used to love What a strange surprise Being out in the cold I never felt so alive And I never felt so old And after a long winter’s sleep She awoke To the sound of ice melting Water dripping from the roof She stepped outside Onto the wooden porch And noticed Where once was land Was now an ocean And she tore her skirt To make a sail And said, “I’m the Captain, Here’s the champagne. Happy New Year.” What a strange surprise Being out in the cold I never felt so alive And I never felt so old Words and music by Larissa Rook
